About Theon Design

Built by a car designer who couldn't find what he was looking for.

Adam Hawley and Lucinda Argy founded Theon Design in 2016, naming the company after their son Theo. Adam had spent years designing cars for some of the world's most prestigious automotive brands. When he couldn't find a 911 built to the standard he expected, he built one himself. That car became the blueprint for everything that followed — and was sold to fund the company.

Operating from a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the UK's Motorsport Valley in Oxfordshire, Theon works exclusively on the Porsche 964 — the generation of the 911 built between 1989 and 1994. Their approach is what they call OEM+: the rigour and precision of an original manufacturer, combined with a level of individual craftsmanship that simply doesn't exist at volume. Every component is digitised and 3D modelled to tolerances tighter than the original factory specification. No two Theon builds are alike.

Theon has now delivered cars to clients in North America, Europe, South America and Asia. The first U.S. commission, USA001, was delivered to a Texas collector and reviewed by GearJunkie, Hagerty and duPont REGISTRY. A second U.S. commission followed shortly after. All U.S. orders are handled exclusively through Humble House.

Theon currently produces three variants, each based on the Porsche 964 platform. All share the same obsessive engineering approach, the same 6,000-plus hours of hand craftsmanship, and the same absolute commitment to building a car that is entirely the owner's own.

The Coupe

The original · Closed roof

The car that started it all. A closed-roof 964 taken to its absolute limit through Theon's OEM+ methodology. Steel body with optional full carbon fibre panels. Engine options from 3.6 to 4.0 litres, producing up to 421bhp from a naturally aspirated flat-six. The benchmark by which all other 964 restomods are judged.

The Targa

Open air · Removable roof

The Targa brings the sensory richness of open-top motoring to Theon's platform. The removable mohair soft top is reworked to ensure a perfect fit. Every structural modification that makes a Theon a Theon is present — seam-welded chassis, carbon fibre tubs, digitised components — with the addition of open-air driving.

The Theon R

Track-focused · Maximum performance

The R takes the Theon platform to its dynamic peak, deploying Motion Control Suspension developed for Porsche global racing series. The MCS 3W damper package gives the R an unrivalled breadth of dynamic ability — equally capable on Californian canyon roads as on a circuit, adjustable at the twist of a dial.

Engineered to obsessive tolerances

Every component is digitised and 3D modelled. Custom wiring looms are 24kg lighter than factory. The chassis is seam-welded for rigidity and F1-grade carbon fibre tubs are bonded to the floor. Nothing is off the shelf, and nothing is done to a standard Theon considers merely acceptable.

Completely bespoke, every time

Engine displacement, gearbox specification, suspension setup, body configuration, colour, interior materials — every decision is the owner's. The process begins with an in-depth brief and ends with a car that exists nowhere else on earth. No Theon is ever repeated.

Air-cooled performance, modern capability

Up to 421bhp from a naturally aspirated flat-six. Optional carbon body panels bring weight to 1,150kg. USA001, the first American commission, delivered 410hp and was calibrated specifically for California's canyon roads. Better power-to-weight than a current GT3 RS, without a single turbo.

Globally sought, genuinely limited

Six to eight builds per year. Current lead times of two years or more. Clients in North America, Europe, South America and Asia. Theon has now delivered multiple commissions to American clients. USA001, the first Theon built specifically for the U.S. market, was completed for a Texas collector and remains one of the most technically advanced examples the company has produced — featuring switchable engine mapping, TracTive semi-active suspension calibrated for California canyon roads, and a 4.0-litre flat-six developing 410hp. A second U.S. commission followed, optimised for power and lightness. All U.S. commissions are arranged and managed exclusively through Humble House.

Can I commission a Theon Design from the United States?

Yes. Humble House is the exclusive U.S. partner for Theon Design, handling all American commissions from initial specification through to delivery at your door. The starting price is $570,000 all-in, covering the donor car, the full build, international shipping and U.S. import. Local taxes are the only additional cost.

What is included in the $570,000 price?
